Launch of Gwanak-gu Cultural City Promotion Committee

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) officially launched the Cultural City Promotion Committee by awarding appointment letters to the committee members at the district office’s planning situation room on the afternoon of the 4th.

To apply for the 4th Cultural City designation contest, the district enacted the Gwanak-gu Cultural City Creation and Support Ordinance in December last year and publicly recruited appointed members for the Cultural City Promotion Committee in January this year.

At the appointment ceremony, 15 members received appointment letters, including Kim Nakyeong, adjunct professor at Kookmin University; Park Hojin, general team leader of Nakseong Venture Startup Center; Jang Hwasin, representative of Gwanak Youth Culture and Arts Network; Jeon Inae, secretary general of Gwanak Art Association; and Hong Mungi, cooperation coordinator of Gwanak-gu.

After the appointment ceremony, the 1st meeting was held, where Hong Seongun (secretary general of the National Museum Cultural Foundation) and Kim Youngseon (secretary of the Jungang-dong Residents’ Autonomous Committee) were elected as chairman and vice chairman respectively, and agenda items such as the committee operation plan (draft) were discussed.

Chairman Hong Seongun expressed his commitment, saying, “I will do my best to develop Gwanak, my second hometown, into a cultural city by leveraging my over 30 years of experience in the central government and private sectors in the culture and tourism fields.”

The appointed members’ term is two years, and the committee will deliberate and advise on basic policies for the district’s cultural city creation and annual cultural city implementation plans. It will play a central role in the cultural city governance involving the Gwanak Cultural Foundation, Cultural City Working Group, and Innovation Policy Research Group.

Mayor Park Junhee stated, “Active resident participation and cooperative governance are important to establish the district’s unique cultural city brand,” and urged, “I ask the promotion committee to play a pivotal role through active activities so that all residents can enjoy a cultured Gwanak as a cultural city.”
