[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) and Seongbuk 50 Plus Center (Director Lee Jong-hwa) are training 50 Plus generation AI robot dementia prevention instructors and conducting AI robot dementia care community care.


This project was selected as a Seoul Metropolitan Government community innovation plan cooperation project in 2021, and it is expected to reduce social costs by preventing dementia in advance.


This project is not a simple general dementia prevention program but uses an AI robot (parrot ‘Pio’) to provide various tests and cognitive enhancement content.


The target of the project includes dementia patients and elderly living alone.


To this end, Seongbuk-gu and Seongbuk 50 Plus Center are training 50 Plus generation AI robot dementia prevention instructors (ICT cognitive care experts). Seongbuk-gu Office, community centers, Y-Dots, welfare centers, and dementia relief centers within Seongbuk-gu establish cooperative relationships to conduct capacity-building education, practical AI robot utilization dementia prevention activities, model development reporting, and performance reporting.


A representative of Seongbuk 50 Plus Center stated, “As the threat of dementia due to an aging society emerges as a social problem, the goal is to create an opportunity to prevent dementia in advance by helping the emotional, physical, and cognitive activities of dementia patients through dementia prevention projects using AI robots.”


Seongbuk-gu Mayor Lee Seung-ro emphasized, “By training AI robot dementia prevention instructors for middle-aged and older adults, not only can jobs be created, but it is also a community care project that can reduce social costs by preventing dementia in advance, achieving two goals at once.”
