[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Eun-young] Jeong Cheong-rae, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, recently criticized the allegations of special treatment regarding Cho Min, the daughter of former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk, who was accepted as an intern at Hanil Hospital under the Korea Electric Power Corporation Medical Foundation, saying, "This is why they are called 'giregi' (derogatory term for biased journalists)."

On the 7th, Jeong posted on his social media, "It must have been exciting to be able to make a headline by bundling Cho Kuk’s daughter and Jeong Cheong-rae together. Watching for several days, it was truly laughable and sad."

Jeong emphasized, "This is why they are called 'giregi.' It is true that my wife works at Hanil Hospital. She works as a pharmacist. As the head of the pharmacy department, she is involved in hiring new pharmacists," adding, "My wife did not know in advance whether Cho Min applied or was accepted. Pharmacists cannot be involved in hiring doctors. People in the industry know this as common sense."

He continued, "Journalists cannot be unaware of these facts. Even knowing this, they produce suspicion-inducing articles like 'There must be something going on? Could this be a coincidence?' This is petty and despicable. Watching the 'giregi' media is pathetic," he criticized.

Jeong also said, "Amid millions of 'giregi' floods, I still respect Cho Min’s mental strength for passing the medical exam and being accepted as an intern," adding, "I sincerely congratulate her. I will visit Hanil Hospital soon to cheer for Doctor Cho Min. Work hard during your internship and become a good doctor."

Earlier, on the 5th, Hwang Bo-seung-hee, a member of the People Power Party, raised suspicions of preferential treatment regarding Cho Min’s acceptance at the hospital where Jeong’s wife is the department head.

At the time, Hwang presented the intern selection results of Hanil Hospital obtained by the People Power Party, stating, "There are rumors within the hospital that Cho ranked first in the intern selection. If she failed at the hospital that selects nine interns (National Medical Center) but was accepted first at Hanil Hospital, where Jeong Cheong-rae’s wife is the department head, it is reasonable to suspect preferential treatment."
