"Food Sales Concentrated in Two Days Before Holiday Break" ... Lotte ON Lunar New Year Food Discount Event

[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] Lotte ON will hold the '2021 Wise Holiday Grocery Shopping for Lunar New Year' event together with Lotte Super from the 8th to the 14th. Reflecting the surge in food sales around last year's Chuseok holiday, they will offer discounts on holiday food ingredients and ready-to-eat meals from three days before the holiday starts until the last day of the holiday.

On the 7th, Lotte ON analyzed food sales during the week including last year's Chuseok holiday (September 28 to October 4) and found that sales were highest on the two days before the holiday (September 28-29) and on the last day of the holiday. Food sales during the two days before the holiday, when customers prepare Lunar New Year foods, accounted for 42% of the weekly sales, and sales on the last day of the holiday surged again, accounting for about 20%.

Comparing sales during the two days before last year's Chuseok and the pre-COVID-19 2019 Chuseok holiday (September 10-11), fresh food sales decreased by 9.5%, while ready-to-eat meal sales increased by 18.3%. As more customers spent the holiday simply at home, sales of convenient meals increased more than eightfold, and sales of packaged seafood and side dishes also rose by 93.8% and 78.2%, respectively.

In line with these purchasing trends, Lotte ON will offer discounts on various products such as ceremonial foods and holiday snacks from the 8th, three days before the Lunar New Year holiday, until the 14th, the last day of the holiday. Customers who purchase more than 50,000 won during the event period will receive 3,000 L.Points.

They are selling 'CJ Bibigo Banquet Assorted Japchae (576g)' for 6,990 won, 'CJ Bibigo Thick Donggeurangttaeng (425g*2)' for 7,590 won, and for Lunar New Year morning rice cake soup ingredients, 'Woojeongbonga Domestic Rice Cake Soup Rice Cake (1kg)' for 3,590 won, 'CJ Bibigo Beef Bone Soup (500g)' for 1,190 won, and 'CJ Bibigo King Dumplings (455g*2)', which go well with rice cake soup, for 7,990 won.

Essential home-stay items include 'CJ Hetbahn (210g*10)' for 9,900 won, 'Nongshim Anseongtangmyun (125g*5)' for 2,750 won, and 'Dongwon Boneless Mild Tuna (150g*5)' for 9,490 won. The recently most price-increased 'Antibiotic-Free Eggs (15 pieces, special grade)' are priced at 5,490 won, and convenient meal kits such as 'Eonyang-style Beef Bulgogi (400g*2)' are sold for 15,900 won, and 'Mimine Hongdae Mimine Original Soup Tteokbokki (570g)' for 4,990 won.

Choi Sang-mi, head of the curation team at Lotte Super, said, "Since this is the second holiday after COVID-19, we prepared the Lunar New Year grocery shopping event by analyzing purchasing trends during last Chuseok. Except for some regions, same-day delivery is available during the holiday period, so customers can quickly receive products they missed purchasing."
