Damyang-gun 'Damyang History Museum' Full-Scale Promotion Targeting Opening in 2024

Signed a Business Agreement with the National Gwangju Museum... Promoting the Opening and Active Operation of Damyang History Museum

[Damyang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] On the 5th, Damyang County in Jeollanam-do announced that it has signed a business agreement with the National Gwangju Museum for the construction and operation of the Damyang History Museum.

The agreement ceremony was attended by Choi Hyung-sik, the mayor of Damyang County, and Lee Sumi, the director of the National Gwangju Museum, who agreed to work together to promote the opening and active operation of the Damyang History Museum.

The agreement includes matters related to the preservation and utilization plans of cultural heritage excavated in Damyang County, the construction and operation of the history museum, as well as various projects to widely publicize Damyang's history and culture to the public.

Currently, the Damyang History Museum has established a plan for the establishment and operation of the museum and has applied to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for a preliminary evaluation regarding the feasibility of establishment. The project is being promoted with the goal of opening in 2024.

Mayor Choi Hyung-sik said, "We will share the National Gwangju Museum’s methods for preserving and managing cultural heritage, diverse exhibitions and programs, and various ways to widely inform the public about history and culture," and added, "Through this, we ask the National Gwangju Museum to lend its support as a leading force to enhance the historical and cultural value of our region."

Meanwhile, Damyang County and the National Gwangju Museum held a special exhibition titled ‘Namdo Culture Exhibition VI 潭陽’ in 2015 to commemorate the Damyang World Bamboo Expo.
