Seoul National University Regular Admission Acceptance Rates: Decrease for General High Schools, Increase for Autonomous Private High Schools and GED Applicants

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] Seoul National University announced on the 5th that it selected a total of 803 students in the 2021 regular admissions, including 798 through the general admission track and 5 through the Special Balanced Opportunity Selection Track II.


According to Seoul National University, the types of schools attended by regular admission successful candidates (based on the general admission track) were led by general high schools at 53.6%. This was followed by autonomous private high schools at 26.3%, autonomous public high schools at 4.0%, GED holders at 4.0%, foreign language high schools at 3.1%, science high schools for gifted students at 3.1%, international high schools at 1.8%, and science high schools at 1.3%.


The proportion of general high school students admitted through regular admissions decreased by 1.3 percentage points (P) from 54.9% the previous year, while the proportion of autonomous private high school students increased by 1.9 percentage points.


The number of students who passed the GED and were admitted through regular admissions was 32, similar to 30 last year.


All 5 students admitted through the Special Balanced Opportunity Selection Track II in the regular admissions were special education candidates.


The departments admitting special education candidates included 1 in the humanities, 1 in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, 1 in the Composition Department, and 2 in the Instrumental Music Department.


Among the regular admission successful candidates, the proportion of repeat test takers was 42.2% (339 students), down from 43.4% (376 students) last year, and the proportion of current high school students was 37.1% (298 students), slightly down from 37.7% (327 students). The proportion of those who took the test three or more times was 16.6% (133 students), slightly up from 15.5% (134 students) last year.


The number of high schools that produced successful candidates for both early and regular admissions increased to 942 this year, up from 924 last year.


The proportion of female successful candidates also slightly increased from 40.1% to 40.6%.


Regular admission successful candidates must register from 9 a.m. on the 8th to 4 p.m. on the 10th of this month. The school plans to announce additional successful candidates three times on the 10th, 16th, and 18th of this month if there are any unregistered students.
