Reporting on Dongmyeong University's 2nd Signature Industry-Academia Project 'Double Mentoring & Dongmyeong Bobusang'

‘SanHakIlYeo Program’ Performance Report Meeting Held ... Overcoming the COVID-19 Crisis

Reporting on Dongmyeong University's 2nd Signature Industry-Academia Project 'Double Mentoring & Dongmyeong Bobusang'

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] ‘Sanhak-il-yeo (産學一如)’. Industry and university are not two, but one.

This is the motto of the customized industry-academia cooperation project promoted by Dongmyung University. Behind the background of the reporting session on the achievements of ‘Double Mentoring’ and ‘Dongmyung Bobusang’ over the past year was this great ‘motto’ supporting it.

Dongmyung University (President Jeong Hong-seop) Social Customized Industry-Academia Cooperation Leading University (LINC+) Development Project Group (Director Shin Dong-seok) held the university’s representative Sanhak-il-yeo programs (Double Mentoring, Dongmyung Bobusang) performance report meeting on February 4th at 5 p.m. at Busan Nongshim Hotel.

Professors, industry professors, and students who participated in the university’s proud Double Mentoring and Dongmyung Bobusang gathered to summarize the activities throughout 2020, share the success cases of excellent activity teams, and deepen and broaden mutual exchange.

The event started with an operational performance report by Ryu Hyun-je, head of Dongmyung University Corporate Cooperation Center, followed by activity videos, presentations by two excellent Sanhak-il-yeo program teams, awards for outstanding industry professors, and awards for excellent teams.

Seok Jeong-eun (4th year, Department of Nursing), who presented an excellent case of Double Mentoring activities, said, “By listening to the rich experience and know-how of the industry professor along with my team members, not alone, I established my vocational values.”

“I realized earlier the need to supplement my shortcomings and made efforts to become an ideal nurse, such as acquiring an emergency treatment certificate, and as a result, I was recently finally accepted by the hospital I wanted.” He introduced his achievement with words full of emotion.

Kim Jae-woon (4th year, Department of Management Information Systems), who won the grand prize in the Untact Dongmyung Bobusang Competition, said, “Promoting company products and discovering overseas buyers was not easy,” and recommended to juniors, “The activities for overseas market research and buyer contact boosted my confidence and global capabilities.”

Dongmyung Bobusang, which pioneers overseas markets, could not dispatch to overseas exhibitions or provide interpretation support due to COVID-19, so this year it was held as an untact online Dongmyung Bobusang competition.

Among a total of 16 teams participating, they enthusiastically carried out activities to discover overseas buyers and promote products for their online family companies in the untact era, producing results.

Double Mentoring is a process in which the LINC+ project group appoints industry employees as industry professors to collaborate with university professors. It is an industry-academia cooperation-friendly human resource development curriculum that jointly guides students’ academics, majors, character, and career, and has established itself as a representative brand program of this university.

In 2020, a total of 633 people participated and conducted 300 activities. It is one of Dongmyung University’s main projects, with the sweat of 61 professors, 99 industry professors (industry mentors), and 473 students.

This program also won the Minister’s Award in the human resource development category at the 2019 Industry-Academia Cooperation EXPO. It is also evaluated that the secret to Dongmyung University’s high employment rate lies in Double Mentoring.

Director Shin Dong-seok said, “Receiving employment and career guidance from industry professors (industry personnel) related to one’s major during enrollment and gaining experience to develop entrepreneurial capabilities, which were only vaguely felt before, is very important and valuable.”

At the performance report meeting, Director Shin said, “The goal is to maximize students’ employment and entrepreneurial capabilities until the moment they get a job by strengthening support for Double Mentoring every year.”
