[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province and its cities and counties have come together to develop stay-type tourism products.
Jeonnam Province announced on the 5th that, together with cities and counties, it plans to enhance accessibility for travelers and foster the most Korean and safe food, marine, cultural, and ecological resources to revitalize local tourism.
To this end, the province held a meeting yesterday with tourism office chiefs from the province and cities/counties to hear firsthand voices from the tourism frontlines, which have been stagnant due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, and to discuss post-COVID tourism measures promoted by the province.
At the meeting, each city and county presented various opinions, including extending the period for support projects to improve quarantine and accommodation readiness at tourist sites, expanding the loan targets of the tourism promotion fund operated by the province, and coordinating the timing of city and county events and festivals.
The province introduced major tourism policies to be promoted this year, such as building the Jeonnam Tourism Platform (J-TaaS), promoting the Year of Visit Jeonnam, supporting tourism new industry startups, fostering DMO support, and creating a sustainable local tourism ecosystem through tourism big data analysis.
It also explained plans for nurturing tourism hub cities, developing regional tourism through planning contests, creating premium marine tourism complexes, and promoting a new growth tourism belt along the southern coast to establish a stay-type tourism infrastructure.
Among these, the Jeonnam Tourism Platform is an online integrated platform that allows users to design local tourism routes and make real-time reservations and payments for transportation, accommodation, and restaurants right in the palm of their hand. Once the service launches, it is expected to greatly contribute to strengthening Jeonnam's tourism competitiveness after COVID-19.
Yoo Mija, head of the Tourism Division of Jeonnam Province, said, “To proactively respond to the changed tourism trends after COVID-19, we will closely cooperate and communicate with cities and counties. We will meticulously prepare a safe and high-quality tourism system and collaborate with the tourism industry to make Jeonnam stand tall as the center of stay-type tourism in South Korea.”
Meanwhile, Jeonnam Province is actively conducting quarantine activities for safe travel in Jeonnam until the end of COVID-19, including introducing safe travel information in the Namdo Travel Guide, supporting cleanliness of bedding in tourist accommodations, and designating clean tourist spots as virus-free zones.
