[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyo-jin] Gwangju Bank announced on the 5th that its ‘Neoki Savings and Deposit,’ launched in December last year to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement, surpassed 5,000 accounts in just over two months since its release.
‘Neoki Savings and Deposit’ is a public interest product launched to remember the spirit of May and practice sharing with the local community. It offers preferential interest rates to customers, and upon subscription, the passbook issued features images of five May 18 historical sites on the cover and inner pages: the old Jeonnam Provincial Office, the intercity bus terminal located where the current Gwangju Bank stands, the National May 18 Democratic Cemetery, May 18 Democratic Plaza, and the Jeonil Building.
Gwangju Bank explained that the product has received favorable reviews for reflecting on the spirit of the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement and the meaning of democracy together with local residents, promoting the historical significance of fading historical sites to a wider audience, and encouraging interest in the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement.
