[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] LG Uplus announced on the 5th that, after analyzing the sales volume of the Galaxy S21 among pre-registered subscribers from the 22nd of last month to the 5th of this month and general subscribers since the 29th of last month, the most sold model was the Galaxy S21 Ultra Phantom Black.
Among the three models officially released on the 29th of last month, the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21 Ultra accounted for about 80% of total sales. The most popular model was the Galaxy S21 Ultra Phantom Black. It was followed by the Galaxy S21 Phantom Gray and Galaxy S21 Ultra Phantom Silver.
By model and color combination, the Galaxy S21 Phantom Gray, Galaxy S21+ Phantom Violet, and Galaxy S21 Ultra Phantom Black were the best sellers. Regardless of the model, the most popular colors were Phantom Black, Phantom Violet, and Phantom Silver in that order.
The Galaxy S21 model was most purchased by women in their 40s (13.4%), the Galaxy S21+ by men in their 20s (13.7%), and the Galaxy S21 Ultra and Ultra 512GB models by men in their 30s (17.6% and 23.7%, respectively).
Earlier, LG Uplus reduced customer burdens and increased various benefits by offering exclusive discounts for non-face-to-face channels along with the Galaxy S21 launch, introducing new bundled products, and the industry's lowest-priced 5G plans. The industry's lowest-priced 5G plan is a plan that allows use of 12GB of 5G data, which is 33% more than the market average, at 37,500 KRW per month without a contract.
Galaxy S21 Unlocked Phones and U+ MVNO Plans Popular Among 2030 Generation
U+ MVNO is also receiving positive responses with the ‘Honey Combo’ promotion launched alongside the Galaxy S21.
The Honey Combo, first introduced with the iPhone 12 launch in October last year, is a promotion that offers limited-time special discount plans and abundant gifts to customers who purchase unlocked phones and then subscribe to U+ MVNO plans.
LG Uplus’s analysis of Galaxy S21 Honey Combo subscribers showed a 10% increase compared to iPhone 12 subscribers when the Honey Combo promotion was first introduced in October last year. Notably, about 69% of subscribers were from the 2030 generation, which is higher than the approximately 50% share of the 2030 generation among general MVNO customers.
LG Uplus analyzes that the Honey Combo promotion is a positive factor in increasing customers who subscribe to MVNO plans with unlocked phones. In fact, compared to the Galaxy Note 20 before the Honey Combo promotion was launched, the number of customers subscribing to MVNO plans with Galaxy S21 unlocked phones grew about 15 times.
