[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Despite the COVID-19 crisis, residents preparing for Seollal feel excited. Market vendors are busier, and there is increased communication among family and relatives. It is a time to wisely celebrate Seollal while maintaining social distancing.

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) is implementing the "2021 Seollal Comprehensive Measures" to ensure residents can celebrate Seollal safely and comfortably.

The district has designated February 8 to 15 as the special period for welcoming Seollal and prepared special measures in seven areas: ▲COVID-19 spread prevention ▲sharing culture ▲traffic ▲safety ▲resolving residents' inconveniences ▲price stabilization ▲establishing public service discipline.

In particular, a 24-hour response system will be maintained during the Seollal holiday period to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The screening clinic at the district health center operates daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the temporary screening clinic from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the residential treatment center will operate normally. In addition to COVID-19, an emergency medical situation room will be operated to prepare for other diseases and accidents, and pharmacies that are open will be managed.

Furthermore, traffic measures tailored to the COVID-19 situation, such as extended village bus operations and traffic task force management, as well as safety measures for rapid response to snow removal and cold wave situations, will be implemented.

A price control situation room will be operated to maintain stable prices of Seollal essential goods. Especially this year, financial support for traditional market Seollal holiday funds and other low-income financial aid will be expanded to help small business owners affected by gathering bans.

Support measures for vulnerable groups who may be easily isolated during social distancing have also been thoroughly prepared. For the first time this year, winter support funds will be provided to the near-poor in the welfare blind spots, and measures for the holiday period will include support for homeless self-reliance facilities, meal support for children at risk of food insecurity, and delivery of holiday meal lunchboxes for the marginalized.

To implement the comprehensive Seollal measures, the district plans to deploy a total of 439 personnel, including public officials, to operate the Seollal comprehensive situation room and functional task forces.

During the Seollal holiday period, inquiries and complaints can be directed to the Seoul 120 Call Center or the Geumcheon-gu situation room.

Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “I thank the many residents preparing for Seollal in accordance with government quarantine guidelines,” and added, “Geumcheon-gu will prepare thoroughly to welcome Seollal for its residents more deeply, more reliably, and more warmly.”
