Ministry of SMEs and Startups Launches Various Events for Traditional Markets' 'Contactless Shopping'
On the 3rd, as the number of new COVID-19 cases rose back to the 400s after four days, making the easing of social distancing measures uncertain, a vendor at a jeon (Korean pancake) shop in Yeongdeungpo Traditional Market in Seoul is packing jeon for sale. Due to COVID-19 restrictions banning gatherings of five or more people, family gatherings have become difficult, and customers preparing for the holiday are rarely visiting. [Asia Economy Reporter Junhyung Lee] The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on the 5th that it will hold various events related to non-face-to-face shopping at traditional markets in celebration of the Lunar New Year holiday.
First, there is a discount event. The traditional market online shopping malls Onnuri Traditional Market, Onnuri Good Day, and Onnuri Market will sell local specialties and Lunar New Year gift sets at prices discounted by up to 30%. Customers who use more than 100,000 won in mobile Onnuri gift certificates will be entered into a draw to receive 30,000 won in mobile Onnuri gift certificates.
There is also a free delivery benefit. Until the 14th, if you use online shopping platforms such as 'Neighborhood Market Shopping', 'Come to the Market', and 'Coupang Eats', you can receive free delivery regardless of the purchase amount. Additionally, from the 8th to the 10th, for three days, you can purchase fish, beef, pork, vegetables, and other items needed for the ancestral rites table at a 10% discounted price. Through a draw, you can receive mobile Onnuri gift certificates or shopping mall points.
You can also prepare for the Lunar New Year at a cheaper price through the special sale of Onnuri gift certificates. The Ministry of SMEs and Startups is selling Onnuri gift certificates at a 10% discount throughout February. The discount rate for paper Onnuri gift certificates has been increased from the previous 5% to 10%, and the monthly purchase limit has been raised from 500,000 won to 1,000,000 won.
By simultaneously applying the 10% discount on mobile Onnuri gift certificate purchases and up to 30% discount in the online traditional market section, you can purchase ritual items at a maximum discount of 40%. Purchasing through online shopping results in a discount effect of up to 20%.
Lee Sangcheon, Director of Traditional Market Development at the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, said, "Online shopping is possible at more than 130 traditional markets nationwide, but it is still insufficient," and added, "As we plan to expand support policies for online advancement, we hope traditional market merchants actively participate in adopting non-face-to-face transaction methods."
