[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the international community should not make the situation more complicated regarding the Myanmar coup.

Wang Wenbin, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasized at a regular briefing on the 3rd, "The United Nations (UN) Security Council should take actions that help Myanmar's political and social stability and peace, and should not escalate conflicts or complicate the situation further."

Earlier, the UN Security Council held an emergency meeting on the 2nd (local time) to respond to the Myanmar military coup, but it is reported that no unified opinion was reached.

According to the Associated Press citing diplomatic sources, the 15 member countries of the Security Council gathered to draft a statement, but permanent members China and Russia insisted that the draft be sent back to their home countries for review, preventing final confirmation.

Regarding the leak of the Security Council discussions, spokesperson Wang expressed shock and said, "The international community should create a favorable external environment for Myanmar to properly resolve conflicts."

This is interpreted as an indirect indication that Western countries, including the United States, should not intervene in the Myanmar issue.

The Global Times, published by the People's Daily, the official newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party, also criticized on the same day in an editorial that the U.S. consideration of sanctions against the Myanmar military "is like pouring oil on the fire and will only worsen the situation."

On the day of the coup, the 1st, when the UN, the U.S., and the international community collectively condemned the Myanmar military coup, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized maintaining stability in Myanmar.

Regarding the allegation that China tacitly supported or condoned the Myanmar coup, spokesperson Wang said, "Such opinions are not true," and added, "We hope Myanmar properly handles conflicts within the framework of its constitution and laws and safeguards political and social stability."
