[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Eun-young] An online post by a netizen claiming that his wife, who became pregnant after six years of marriage, was unfairly notified of dismissal by her workplace is heating up online. The post is currently also submitted as a petition on the Blue House National Petition Board.
On the 29th, a post titled "It is so unfair. A world where pregnancy is not a blessing but a sorrow" was uploaded on an online community.
The author, who identified himself as a man in his 40s living in Gimhae, Gyeongnam, claimed, "My wife was notified of dismissal by her company because of the child we conceived after six years of infertility tests."
The writer said, "I am posting this because it feels like they are going too far," and added, "My wife has been working as a ward nursing assistant for about three years and had no issues at work until she informed them of her pregnancy."

He continued, "The hospital refused maternity leave two days after the day they discussed it with my wife and issued a dismissal notice effective January 31 on December 24," and said, "Even during the short period of about a month, the company blocked her from coming to work, excluded her from duties, and pressured her not to come to work citing workplace harassment."
He expressed his grievance, saying, "After filing a complaint with the Ministry of Labor on December 31 and the subsequent investigation, the hospital suddenly notified her of reinstatement, but when negotiations between my wife and the hospital failed, the hospital dismissed her again effective March 1."

The writer said, "Do you know what is the most unfair? On a cold winter day with a severe cold wave, they made my wife, who is eight months pregnant, stand outside the building in front of a small table to measure her temperature," and added, "Originally, the temperature was measured at the outpatient desk, but suddenly they made this place. Right in front is a nine-lane road with no chairs or rest area," expressing his frustration.
Finally, the writer appealed, "It is so unfair. Is being pregnant a fault?" and said, "I called everywhere I could?Ministry of Employment and Labor, Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, Ministry of Health and Welfare, city hall, provincial office, women's center?but the government says they cannot assist pregnant women until maternity leave. I believe there should be laws and systems to help pregnant women against unfair treatment at the very least."
Outraged netizens responded, "They must have been pregnant and given birth themselves, this is too much," "Saying dismissal because they don't want to give maternity leave is absurd," "Is this the 1980s?" and so on.
The post currently has about 80,000 views and 1,700 recommendations, and a petition with the same content has been submitted to the Blue House National Petition Board.
