Reducing Waste by 20% by 2030, Implementing Real-Name System for Volume-Based Waste Bags
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 28th that it will implement a real-name system for public institution volume-based waste bags starting next month to reduce the amount of waste generated.
Departments under Suncheon City and the Eup, Myeon, and Dong administrative welfare centers must attach a sticker with the department name on the front of the volume-based waste bag when disposing of household waste generated in the office before putting out the trash.
In addition, resource circulation leader activists will inspect the volume-based waste bags, recyclable waste, and food waste collection containers disposed of at each department’s collection site monthly and as needed. Departments with insufficient waste separation will be penalized, while outstanding departments will receive separate commendations, operating the system in an organized manner.
Suncheon City conducted a first pilot operation of the real-name system for volume-based waste bag disposal departments in the first half of this year at city hall departments, analyzed its effectiveness, and plans to expand it in the second half to public institutions such as fire stations and education offices. Furthermore, it will consider introducing the system to private companies and general workplaces in a third phase, developing it into a citywide movement to reduce waste.
This initiative aligns with the “20% Waste Reduction Policy by 2030” announced by Mayor Heo Seok at the Suncheon City Waste Policy Briefing on the 15th, aiming for Suncheon City officials to take the lead in spreading waste reduction throughout the local community.
Meanwhile, Suncheon City plans to finalize the location of the Suncheon City Clean-up Environment Center in the first half of this year and build a state-of-the-art waste treatment facility to overcome the waste crisis.
