[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] Kim Jin-wook, Chief of the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Department (hereinafter referred to as the HCID), announced on the 28th that he will recommend lawyer Yeo Woon-guk, a former judge, as the deputy chief of the HCID.
On the same day, Kim held an online briefing at the Government Seoul Office and said, "Although we planned to make multiple recommendations, we are making a single recommendation based on the majority opinion." He described lawyer Yeo as "currently the vice president of the Korean Bar Association, with 20 years of experience as a judge, and a criminal law specialist who served as a warrant judge for three years," adding, "I majored in constitutional law, so I believe we will complement each other well."
Lawyer Yeo graduated from Seoul National University Law School and began his career as a judge at Daejeon District Court in 1997. He served as a judge at Suwon District Court, Seoul Central District Court, and Seoul High Court before resigning in 2016. On the 26th, he was also recommended by the Korean Bar Association as the successor to Supreme Court Justice Park Sang-ok, who will retire on the 5th.
