[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam, is intensively promoting the mandatory subscription to liability insurance for dangerous dog owners, which will be enforced from February 12 this year, according to the revised Animal Protection Act, targeting local residents and registered dangerous dog owners.

This is in accordance with the recently revised Animal Protection Act due to dog bite incidents. Owners of dangerous dogs must subscribe to liability insurance as prescribed by the President to compensate for damage to others' life, body, or property caused by the dangerous dog. Failure to subscribe may result in a fine of up to 3 million KRW.

The county has posted banners at 14 locations within the jurisdiction, guiding the use of leashes and safety devices when taking dangerous dogs outside. Insurance subscription guide posters have been attached at town and township offices, and text messages informing dangerous dog owners about insurance subscription have been sent.

In the future, insurance companies are expected to launch dangerous dog insurance products. The insurance premium is relatively inexpensive at around 10,000 KRW per year, and even if one is subscribed to general liability insurance, separate subscription to dangerous dog insurance is required.
