[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Regarding South Korea's ranking of 33rd in the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) by Transparency International (TI), President Moon Jae-in stated that "the efforts to eradicate deep-rooted evils and reform power institutions have been recognized."
On the 28th, President Moon linked a related article through social networking services (SNS) and evaluated, "This is an assessment of the efforts made by our government and people in eradicating deep-rooted evils and reforming power institutions, and it is an indicator showing that our society is developing in the right direction."
The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission announced that South Korea received its highest-ever score (61 points) in the CPI, ranking 33rd out of 180 countries.
President Moon emphasized, "The international community's evaluation of our society's transparency and integrity has greatly improved," adding, "Compared to 2017, the difference is even more remarkable."
He continued, "Still, among 180 countries worldwide, we rank 33rd, and among 37 OECD countries, we are 23rd," adding, "Our government aims to raise the global ranking to within the top 20 during its term."
President Moon said, "Although there is still a long way to go, I hope we continue to work together and move forward toward a fair Republic of Korea," and added, "Only by establishing 'fairness' and 'justice' befitting a top 10 global economy can we confidently speak of being an advanced country."
