[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Korea Forest Service announced on the 28th that it has selected eight young talents for overseas forestry and held a launch ceremony through an online video system.
The young talents are selected to support young people who wish to work in the forestry field to gain work experience overseas, strengthen their employment capabilities, and grow into international talents.
This project was introduced in 2009 and has been ongoing. Up to last year, a total of 263 young talents have been selected, and these youths have been dispatched to 38 companies and institutions in 15 countries for work experience.
It has been found that 198 of these young talents have actually been employed by forestry companies and others through this program.
The young talents selected this year received pre-capacity building training in December last year and will be first dispatched on the 3rd of next month to the overseas afforestation site of a Korean company operating in Paraguay.
Afterwards, they will visit various countries such as Indonesia, Myanmar, and the Solomon Islands to gain overseas forestry field experience and related employment opportunities.
However, this year, the Korea Forest Service plans to provide flexible job experience opportunities by expanding the workplace domestically and alleviating the overseas living expenses burden for young talents if overseas dispatch is deemed difficult due to the COVID-19 situation in the scheduled dispatch countries.
Ko Gi-yeon, Director of International Forestry Cooperation at the Korea Forest Service, said, “Through overseas forestry field experience, we will help young people develop interest in the forestry field and acquire expertise in overseas forest resource development and international forestry cooperation.”
