[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Lee Seung-ok) announced on the 28th that it will provide disaster relief funds of 100,000 KRW per person to residents who have been struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic starting from the 1st of next month.
The county decided to support disaster relief funds to alleviate the overall shock to the local economy caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and to provide practical assistance to residents enduring difficult times.
Accordingly, on the 25th, the 'Gangjin-gun Disaster Relief Fund Support Ordinance' was passed, and after consultation with the Gangjin County Council on securing the necessary funds, it was decided to provide disaster relief funds to all residents.
The budget for the disaster relief funds was secured by reserving a portion of the application building fund, which is accumulated annually, and by reducing regular expenses such as various events and implementing stringent expenditure restructuring, resulting in approximately 3.5 billion KRW of self-generated funds.
The recipients are Gangjin residents with addresses in Gangjin-gun as of January 31, 2021, as well as foreign-registered permanent residents and marriage immigrants.
The county will provide the full amount of 100,000 KRW in Gangjin Love Gift Certificates and requested that the funds be used by April 30 to help revitalize the local economy.
The application period starts on February 1, and applicants can apply by visiting their local eup/myeon office or according to the schedule of on-site visits by village representatives.
It is principle that the head of the household applies directly per household; in case of proxy application, the spouse or direct ascendants/descendants can apply by presenting documents such as a family relationship certificate.
Gangjin-gun considers the first quarter of this year, before the full-scale vaccination rollout, as the most difficult period during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and plans to proceed with payments before the Lunar New Year holiday to provide assistance to residents as quickly as possible.
Governor Lee Seung-ok stated in a statement on the 28th, “Despite difficult local financial conditions, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues, we decided to provide disaster relief funds to offer some support to the economic lives of residents. We hope this support fund will serve as a catalyst to overcome the difficulties faced by self-employed individuals and small business owners.”
