Moon Administration Attempts to Revoke 'Loss Compensation'
"Judging Election Gains by Distributing Support Funds in Seoul and Busan"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] On the 28th, the People Power Party criticized the government and ruling party regarding the compensation payment for business losses of self-employed individuals, saying, "Is the state administration a game of empty talk?"
Kim Eun-hye, spokesperson for the People Power Party, stated in a commentary on the same day, "The Moon Jae-in administration, which had been silent about the People Power Party's requests for loss compensation since last year, suddenly shouted 'pay loss compensation before the election' under the president's orders and the prime minister's scolding, but is now reversing it by saying 'it is difficult to pay the loss compensation immediately,'" adding, "They are postponing the loss compensation until after the election and instead plan to provide the 4th round of support funds, which have not even been fully distributed in the 3rd round, before the election."
Spokesperson Kim said, "Is the state administration a game of empty talk? The humiliation and insult that ultimately returned to the small business owners and self-employed who survived day by day with loans and endured this government's quarantine guidelines with grit," adding, "This administration seems to have been deceiving the powerless and weak by promising everything, but after calculating the votes for the by-elections, they judged that it would be more beneficial for the election to distribute support funds in Seoul and Busan."
He continued, "How long will the people have to endure this amateurish and incompetent government with no standards or principles that now says no to small business owners and the self-employed?" and criticized, "The Moon Jae-in government, which is stingy to the endlessly sacrificing people while not allowing even a finger to be touched on the 21 trillion won Korean New Deal for 'our side' that does not even exist."
Spokesperson Kim said, "The Democratic Party must provide a convincing explanation and apology for mocking the people who are shedding tears of blood during the national disaster," and urged, "President Moon should take responsibility for this confusion and keep his promise to small business owners and the self-employed by readjusting the budget."
