[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Jeong Eui-yong, the nominee for Minister of Foreign Affairs, emphasized that "developing the ROK-US alliance is the most important task of our diplomacy," stating that the two governments share the value of the alliance.

On the 28th, while on his way to the office set up in the Daewoo Building in Jongno-gu, Seoul, Jeong told reporters, "The ROK-US alliance is the foundation of our diplomacy," expressing this view.

He said, "One of the most important tasks of our diplomacy is to continue developing the alliance relationship in a healthier and more reciprocal manner," adding, "From this perspective, since the inauguration of the Biden administration, the swift communication between National Security Advisor Suh Hoon and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, Defense Minister Suh Wook and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, as well as yesterday between Minister Kang Kyung-wha and new Secretary of State Antony Blinken, is very encouraging."

Jeong said, "To my knowledge, a call between the leaders of the ROK and the US is expected to take place soon," adding, "This well demonstrates that the governments of both countries fully recognize and share the value and importance of the alliance."
