[Asia Economy Reporter Chunhee Lee] The daily number of new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in South Korea recorded 497. Although it slightly decreased from the previous day and dropped to the 400s, it still approaches 500.


The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced on the 28th that as of midnight, the cumulative number of COVID-19 confirmed cases increased by 497 from the previous day to 76,926.


The infection routes of the new confirmed cases were 479 domestic cases and 18 imported cases.


Among the domestic confirmed cases, 102 cases (21.3%) in Seoul, 116 cases (24.2%) in Gyeonggi, and 40 cases (8.4%) in Incheon, totaling 258 cases in the metropolitan area, accounted for 53.9% of the total.


Other regions reported ▲Busan 53 cases ▲Gwangju 44 cases ▲Gyeongbuk 43 cases ▲Chungbuk 24 cases ▲Gyeongnam 19 cases ▲Daegu 10 cases ▲Jeonnam 8 cases ▲Gangwon 6 cases ▲Ulsan 5 cases ▲Daejeon 4 cases ▲Chungnam 4 cases ▲Jeonbuk 1 case. No confirmed cases were reported in Sejong and Jeju.


There were 18 imported confirmed cases. Among them, 7 were detected during quarantine, and the remaining 11 were confirmed locally. Fourteen were Korean nationals and 4 were foreigners.


The number of patients who were declared recovered and released from isolation increased by 538 from the previous day to 66,016. Among the confirmed patients receiving inpatient treatment, the number of critically ill patients decreased by 19 to 251. The death toll rose by 8 from the previous day to 1,386.


On the previous day, 52,942 diagnostic tests were conducted for suspected cases. At temporary screening clinics set up in the metropolitan area, 24,708 tests were performed, confirming 47 new cases.
