[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Ki-dong] The Mokpo E-Land Senior Welfare Center (Director Kang Ju-ho), operated by the social welfare corporation E-Land Welfare Foundation (Chairman Park Sung-kyung), announced on the 28th that it provided heating oil and briquettes to elderly people living alone (without family ties) and heating-vulnerable households in the Mokpo area for a week starting from the 18th.

This support was pre-planned to focus on managing heating-vulnerable elderly people, considering the high incidence of hypothermia-related deaths among the elderly during winter from late December to January last year.

In early December last year, a Naver Happy Bean fundraising box was opened, and a full survey of heating-vulnerable elderly was conducted. A total of 70 recipients were selected, with 62 using oil boilers receiving 200 liters of heating oil each, and 8 receiving 200 briquettes each as individual support.

The generous support of heating oil and briquettes to each household was made possible by raising a total of 9,702,000 KRW through the Naver Happy Bean fundraising box.

An elderly person living alone who received heating oil said, “The oil was so expensive that I never even thought of turning on the boiler and was relying only on an electric blanket, but now that I have received heating oil support, I feel full even without eating,” and expressed gratitude, saying, “Thank you to the Naver Happy Bean donors who supported the heating oil and to the Mokpo E-Land Senior Welfare Center that came directly to deliver it.”

Kang Ju-ho, director of the Mokpo E-Land Senior Welfare Center, said, “With this year’s severe cold wave causing temperatures to drop below freezing, we hope this support will be of some help to the elderly enduring the cold,” and added, “We will actively identify and provide necessary support and services tailored to each recipient beyond heating oil and briquettes.”

Meanwhile, the Mokpo E-Land Senior Welfare Center was selected as an elderly customized care service provider by Mokpo City in 2019 and has been actively discovering elderly people in welfare blind spots and providing customized services since last year.
