Gunwi-gun Focuses on Promoting Changing Welfare Systems... "Zero Blind Spots"

Gunwi-gun Focuses on Promoting Changing Welfare Systems... "Zero Blind Spots" Meeting scene related to the relaxation of the 2021 National Basic Livelihood Security standards.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] Gunwi-gun, Gyeongbuk, is accelerating efforts to create a happy Gunwi without welfare blind spots by promptly processing applications, conducting investigations, and identifying eligible recipients in accordance with the '2021 National Basic Livelihood Security Standard Relaxation.' Support for national veterans will also be strengthened.

According to Gunwi-gun on the 28th, from this year, the support obligation criteria for applicants of the National Basic Livelihood Security living allowance who are 'elderly aged 65 or older' or 'households with a single parent included' will be relaxed.

The support obligation criteria refer to the investigation of the support ability of the first-degree lineal relatives and their spouses of the basic livelihood security recipients to determine eligibility for benefits.

From this year, the support obligation criteria will not be applied to elderly and single-parent households. However, considering social sentiment, the criteria will apply to those households whose support obligors have an annual income of 100 million KRW or more and property valued at 900 million KRW or more.

The basic pension selection standard amount will be increased by 14.2%, from 1.48 million KRW in 2020 to 1.69 million KRW in 2021 for single-person households. Accordingly, elderly people who previously could not receive the basic pension will be newly eligible if their recognized income does not exceed 1.69 million KRW.

The maximum monthly basic pension payment of 300,000 KRW, which was applied to the bottom 40% income group in 2020, will be expanded from 2021 to all basic pension recipients, further contributing to the stability of the elderly's lives.

Gunwi-gun raised the honorarium for national veterans, including the war participation honorarium, veterans' courtesy allowance, and war participant spouse welfare allowance, through ordinance amendments in December last year to inherit and enhance the spirit of national defense and respect.

Accordingly, from this year, the war participation honorarium will be increased from 100,000 KRW to 150,000 KRW per month, the veterans' courtesy allowance from 90,000 KRW to 100,000 KRW per month, and the war participant spouse welfare allowance from 50,000 KRW to 70,000 KRW per month. Operating and project expenses will continue to be supported for nine veterans' organizations.

Kim Ki-deok, Acting Governor of Gunwi-gun, said, "We will intensively promote the changed welfare benefit system until the end of January to ensure that no residents miss support opportunities due to lack of awareness of the improvements."
