Amorepacific-GS Caltex Sign Agreement for Plastic Bottle Recycling Collaboration

Amorepacific-GS Caltex Sign Agreement for Plastic Bottle Recycling Collaboration On the 27th, representatives from Amorepacific and GS Caltex are signing a business agreement for the systematic recycling of plastic bottles.

[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Amorepacific announced on the 28th that it has signed a business agreement with GS Caltex for the systematic recycling of plastic containers.

Through this agreement, 100 tons of plastic containers will be chemically recycled annually, and Amorepacific will apply the recycled materials to products and fixtures. The application rate is planned to reach 20% this year and 50% by 2025.

Since launching the 'Innisfree Container Collection Campaign' in 2003, the Amorepacific Group has collected a total of 2,200 tons of cosmetic containers by 2020. Through the eco-friendly social contribution campaign 'Green Cycle,' they have researched various recycling methods, including recycling cosmetic containers or upcycling them into creative art pieces.

With GS Caltex, they plan to carry out work under the joint goal of expanding the recycling of plastic, which accounts for 63% of collected cosmetic containers, and the application of eco-friendly raw materials. In particular, they will focus on upcycling methods that mix materials with various physical properties in plastic cosmetic containers to create new value by improving performance and quality.

This method involves producing new composite resins using plastic cosmetic containers collected by Amorepacific, which are made from recycled plastic materials from GS Caltex and used as raw materials for automotive and home appliance parts.

Jung-hwa Oh, Executive Director of Amorepacific's Sustainability Division, stated, "The plastic issue, which has reached a serious level due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is a shared social problem that must be solved together. Amorepacific will do its best as a corporate citizen contributing to responsible consumption and production through active collaboration with GS Caltex."
