[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Ministop announced on the 28th that it will be the first convenience store to introduce the ‘Seoul Sisters Kimchi Seasoning’ from the food company Food Culture Lab.
Kimchi seasoning is a product that became a hot topic in Korea after ranking first in chili powder sales on Amazon in the United States just seven months after its release in November last year. It also recorded cumulative domestic and international sales of 100,000 units within six months of its launch.
Kimchi seasoning is a powder-type sauce made by adding lactic acid bacteria extracted from kimchi, which can be sprinkled on various dishes such as ramen, fried food, barbecue, and stew. Additionally, kimchi seasoning is a vegan product that uses only plant-based ingredients without any animal-derived ingredients such as salted seafood. Instead, it combines 16 ingredients including kelp, radish, shiitake mushrooms, and paprika to create the unique umami flavor of kimchi.
Kimchi seasoning is a good sauce to use when eating greasy dishes like cream pasta or fried food or when you want to enhance the umami flavor of your food. Unlike spicy sauces like Sriracha or Tabasco, kimchi seasoning blends salty, sweet, and sour tastes, making it suitable for any dish and helping to bring out the umami flavor of the food.
A Ministop official said, “We are launching kimchi seasoning, which is gaining attention in North America for its unique aroma and umami flavor, as the first convenience store to offer it,” adding, “It is a powdered sauce product with zero calories and no GMO (genetically modified organisms), so you can enjoy it with peace of mind.”
