[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] On the 27th at 2:30 PM, Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for educational support for North Korean defectors between Nowon-gu Office, Nowon-gu Northern Hana Center, and Nowon Women's Human Resources Development Center in the mayor's office.
According to a survey conducted by the district last year on the actual conditions of North Korean defectors, the highest demand was found to be for employment and obtaining technical certifications.
Under the agreement, the district will establish business plans and provide budget support for educational assistance for North Korean defectors; Seoul Northern Hana Center will recruit students and manage follow-up; and Nowon Women's Human Resources Development Center will conduct commissioned education.
As the first project, the district will open a course for obtaining a caregiver certification and fully support the tuition fees.
The signing ceremony was held with the attendance of Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, Noh Yoo-hwan, Director of Seoul Northern Hana Center, and Min Hye-kyung, Director of Nowon Women's Human Resources Development Center, proceeding with signing and exchanging the agreement and commemorative photo session.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “I am grateful to Seoul Northern Hana Center and Nowon Women's Human Resources Development Center for stepping forward to help North Korean defectors adapting to an unfamiliar environment,” and added, “We will continue to do our best through various policies so that North Korean defectors can live healthily as members of our society.”
