Jeju Reports Zero New COVID-19 Cases for Third Consecutive Day

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters (Jeju) Reporter Park Chang-won] Jeju Special Self-Governing Province announced on the 27th that there have been zero new COVID-19 cases for three consecutive days since the 24th.

The cumulative number of confirmed cases stands at 518.

All 499 individuals tested for COVID-19 the previous day received negative results.

As of 11 a.m. on the day, no additional confirmed cases have been identified. There have been 97 confirmed cases this month.

Although no new cases have occurred, health authorities remain vigilant.

Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong presided over the weekly policy coordination meeting and stated, “It has been one year since the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters was launched to respond to the pandemic, and the suffering of residents has reached its limit. Residents are exhausted, and especially due to severe economic damage and daily inconveniences, even if public officials work hard, relative complaints are inevitable, so we must understand and empathize well.”

Governor Won added, “Since this period is just before the Lunar New Year, issues such as the 4th Disaster Emergency Support Fund, compensation for losses mainly for self-employed individuals, and easing of social distancing may be actively discussed. Therefore, it is necessary to approach this more sensitively than the usual quarantine and economic support measures. We need deep consideration and wise judgment on how to manage the quarantine system before and after the Lunar New Year while monitoring the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters’ trends. We will expedite the payment of the 4th Disaster Emergency Support Fund and respond more deeply, sensitively, and meticulously to policies related to economic activities.”
