Hanul Nuclear Power Headquarters Conducts First Radiation Emergency Drill at Shin Hanul Unit 1 Park Beom-su, Director of Hanul Nuclear Power Headquarters, commanding the training.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., Ltd. Hanul Nuclear Power Headquarters (Head Park Beom-su) announced on the 27th that it conducted its first radiation emergency response drill at Shin Hanul Unit 1.

The radiation emergency response drill is an event to check emergency response capabilities before the start of operation of nuclear facilities, in accordance with the "Act on Protection and Radiation Emergency Measures for Nuclear Facilities, etc." and the "Regulations on Radiation Emergency Measures for Nuclear Operators."

This drill was conducted as a simulation assuming an emergency situation where an earthquake occurred 80 km east of Uljin-gun, Gyeongbuk, causing damage to power generation equipment and loss of all power supply to the power plant.

To prevent COVID-19 infection, Hanul Headquarters conducted the drill with all participants wearing masks after temperature checks. Hanul Nuclear Power explained that the drill focused on deploying mobile power generators to secure emergency power and emergency medical relief activities for the injured, simulating the situation as realistically as possible under the condition of total power loss.

Park Beom-su, head of Hanul Nuclear Power Headquarters, said, "This drill was a good opportunity to check the emergency response capabilities of the emergency personnel at Shin Hanul Unit 1, which is about to begin operation," and pledged, "Hanul Headquarters will continue to do its best for the safe operation of the nuclear power plant."
