Rose Brewer Appointed as Starbucks COO
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] The large U.S. pharmacy chain Walgreens has appointed Rose Brewer, former Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Starbucks, as its next CEO, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on the 26th (local time). Brewer will become the only Black woman leading a Fortune 500 company.
Walgreens confirmed on the same day that Brewer has been named the next CEO, CNBC reported. Earlier, Starbucks announced that Brewer will leave the company and its board at the end of February to take on the CEO role at another publicly traded company.
Brewer will assume the position of Walgreens' new CEO on March 15. She will become the first Black and first female leader of Walmart. Brewer began her career in the distribution industry in 2006, starting at the American hygiene paper company Kimberly-Clark.
