[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Me2on (CEO Son Changwook) announced on the 27th that it has signed a strategic agreement with TopCo (CEO Yoo Jungseok), which operates the webtoon platform 'TopToon', to develop games utilizing webtoon IP.
Through this agreement, Me2on plans to strengthen mutual ties with TopCo and promote the development of new games based on TopCo's webtoon IP (intellectual property) along with various promotions and marketing activities through strategic marketing partnerships between Me2on Group's social casino and casual games and TopCo's webtoon IP.
TopToon, which started its service in 2014, has currently surpassed 23 million cumulative members and holds over 1,100 diverse genre contents. Leading with the popular webtoon 'Convenience Store Saetbyeol', which was aired as an SBS drama last year, it has established itself as a representative premium webtoon platform in Korea, attracting industry attention.
The two companies plan to carry out ▲ Me2on Group's game development plans utilizing TopToon's IP ▲ new game production and joint investment ▲ active marketing support for each company's platform.
Son Changwook, CEO of Me2on, said, "Through the business agreement with TopCo, Me2on will not be limited to the game business but will create opportunities to provide new enjoyment to users by utilizing content in various fields," adding, "Through the IP collaboration between Me2on and TopToon, games and webtoons will meet to demonstrate differentiated synergy."
Yoo Jungseok, CEO of TopCo, said, "As the content industry market grows, we will seek development directions so that webtoons and games, the representatives of next-generation content, can meet to create global business opportunities and expand synergy, and produce good results."
