Students who come for counseling each pour out their worries in a corner of the research institute. Those who hesitated to come found the courage to ‘click’ and release their inner troubles.

Despite COVID-19, Dongmyeong Psychological Health Research Institute has been warmly absorbing the difficulties of university students both online and offline, gaining their affection.

The institute provides counseling for students in career, occupation, and psychological fields, as well as education and capacity-building programs for professional counselors.

Over the past year, the institute has consistently conducted diverse counseling education such as counseling case study meetings using MMPI-2, including ‘case conceptualization’ and ‘counseling intervention processes,’ receiving positive responses.

The MMPI-2 psychological test, developed in the United States, is an in-depth assessment tool that evaluates the client’s personality, psychopathological tendencies, and other adaptation states.

Dongmyeong University (President Jeong Hong-seop) Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation’s Dongmyeong Psychological Health Research Institute (Director Choi Seong-jin) held monthly online and offline counseling case study meetings from September to December last year for a total of 158 participants, including counselors and workers in counseling-related organizations, to strengthen counseling capabilities.

The monthly themes were ▲September ‘I feel like my whole self is falling apart’ (Supervisor Lee Sang-hoon, Director of Busan Counseling and Psychotherapy Research Institute, Dongmyeong University Professor Kim Kyung-mi), ▲October ‘I want to be cared for and respected’ (Supervisor Professor Shin Yeon-hee, Busan National University, Dongmyeong University Professor Kim Jeong-nam), ▲November ‘I can fly well on my own’ (Supervisor Ko Won-ja, Director of Cheongsim Psychological Counseling Research Institute, Dongmyeong University Professor Kim Jeong-nam), ▲December ‘My dad is bullying me’ (Supervisor Ha Do-gyeom, Director of TS Busan Psychological Center, Dongmyeong University Professors Kim Jeong-nam and Kim Min-jung).

In November last year, Director Choi Seong-jin of Dongmyeong Psychological Health Research Institute held an MMPI-2 (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2) psychological test workshop for 54 participants including counseling institution workers, teachers, and graduate students in related departments. The workshop covered MMPI-2 administration and interpretation, as well as case conceptualization and counseling intervention methods in actual counseling settings, offering beginner, intermediate, and advanced courses.

In January last year, Director Choi Seong-jin and Counseling Psychology Professor Kim Kyung-mi of Dongmyeong Psychological Health Research Institute conducted a high school winter school titled ‘Career Exploration Journey with Counseling/Clinical Psychologists’ for 25 high school students in the Busan area, receiving great response.

Director Choi Seong-jin said, “Through family counseling for emotional difficulties caused by COVID-19, learning and career guidance for children and adolescents, counseling for at-risk youth, integrated art therapy, play therapy, psychological testing, activity research for youth, and academic exchanges with related organizations, we will provide various education and professional psychological counseling services for counselors and workers in counseling-related institutions.”

Dongmyeong Psychological Health Research Institute was established in May last year, centered on professors and graduate students of the Counseling Psychology Department at Dongmyeong University, to provide professional psychological counseling services that combine mental recovery, health, and healing.
