Gyeongju City Designates Indoor Gymnasium as COVID-19 'Vaccination Center'

In Some Outlying Eup and Myeon Areas Far from Vaccination Centers, Vaccination Entrusted to Local Clinics

Gyeongju City Designates Indoor Gymnasium as COVID-19 'Vaccination Center' On the morning of the 26th, Joo Nak-young, the mayor of Gyeongju City, held a meeting with the heads of national, branch, and headquarters offices and received a report from the public health center on the plan for sequential free vaccinations for all citizens.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] As the government announced its plan to complete COVID-19 vaccinations and establish herd immunity by November this year, Gyeongju City in Gyeongbuk Province is also accelerating its vaccination preparations.

On the 26th, Mayor Ju Nak-young held a meeting with heads of national, district, and headquarters offices, receiving a report from the public health center on the sequential free vaccination plan for all citizens, and focused on discussing related matters.

Mayor Ju urged, "Re-examine the flow of waiting facilities before and after vaccination at the Gyeongju Indoor Gymnasium, which will be designated as the vaccination center, and ensure thorough securing of surrounding spaces as large-scale parking facilities are needed," and ordered, "Please establish a thorough transportation plan considering the accessibility of residents in the outskirts of towns and townships."

The public health center is focusing on securing ultra-low temperature freezers in accordance with the government's plan to prioritize distribution of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, which require ultra-low temperature storage, to regional vaccination centers.

To facilitate smoother transportation of vaccination targets, a basic plan has been set to identify vaccination candidates by town and township and accept reservations through town and township offices. Since large-scale movement is necessary, close consultations will be held through MOUs with local charter bus companies.

In particular, the public health center plans to form a vaccination transportation team composed of the Comprehensive Volunteer Center, the Federation of Community Leaders, the Autonomous Crime Prevention Unit, the Youth Federation, JC, and others, and operate it from the end of next month when vaccinations begin until completion.

Mayor Ju Nak-young pledged, "Although the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency is scheduled to announce a detailed vaccination implementation plan on the 28th, Gyeongju City is thoroughly prepared to the extent that vaccinations could begin as early as tomorrow."
