Initiating the Establishment of an Eco-Friendly Mobility Environment
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Mercedes-Benz Korea is set to maintain its position as the number one imported car brand for the sixth consecutive year by launching a total of nine new models this year, led by two pure electric vehicles.
Thomas Klein, the new president of Mercedes-Benz Korea, announced this during an online press conference held on the morning of the 27th under the theme "Drawing a Sustainable Future Together." This press conference was the first official event since Klein took office on the 1st of this month.
Last year, Mercedes-Benz Korea recorded sales of 76,879 units by launching eight fully redesigned models and six facelift models, along with strong sales of SUVs, Mercedes-AMG, and electrified models, securing the top spot in the imported car market for five consecutive years.
This year, Mercedes-Benz Korea plans to release a total of nine new models, including seven fully redesigned models and two facelift models, focusing on Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-Maybach, Mercedes-AMG, and Mercedes-EQ.
First, the sedan lineup will be strengthened with the launch of the all-new 7th generation flagship luxury sedan, the New S-Class, and the New C-Class. Additionally, the premium 4-door coupe CLS will be updated with the 3rd generation facelift model, the New CLS, and a new engine lineup, the G 400 d, will be introduced for the G-Class.
Mercedes-Maybach will launch its first-ever SUV, the New Mercedes-Maybach GLS, and the fully redesigned New Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, the highest-grade luxury sedan.
In particular, the Mercedes-EQ brand will lead the next generation of eco-friendly mobility by introducing two new pure electric vehicles, the New EQA and the New EQS, along with a more convenient EQ-exclusive charging solution.
Alongside the launch of these pure electric vehicles, Mercedes-Benz Korea will expand related infrastructure by extending EQ-exclusive charging facilities, specialized technical personnel, and service advisors stationed at EQ-exclusive service centers nationwide to build an eco-friendly mobility environment. Additionally, the 'AMG Brand Center,' where customers can experience Mercedes-AMG, will open for the first time in Korea in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
The digital platform will also be strengthened. This year, the world's first mobile membership program, the 'Mercedes me Care' application, will be launched in Korea. This app offers loyalty benefits to Mercedes customers through partnerships with over 50 companies.
President Klein said, "I am pleased to be appointed as the new president of Mercedes-Benz Korea, a company that continues to grow with the trust and love of our customers. We will do our best to ensure that the charm and amazing experiences of Mercedes-Benz reach the hearts of our valued customers. At the same time, as the global automotive industry faces a period of great change preparing for a sustainable future mobility era, we will continuously pursue innovation."
Meanwhile, the Mercedes Social Contribution Committee donated a total of 6.7 billion KRW last year, including 1.8 billion KRW to support vulnerable groups in overcoming the COVID-19 crisis. The cumulative donation amount has reached 30.1 billion KRW. This year, Mercedes will add "sustainability" to its social contribution activities and carry out carbon-neutral initiatives for environmental protection.
