[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Mokpo National University (President Park Min-seo) announced on the 27th that it has signed an industry-academic cooperation memorandum of understanding (MOU) with CIP (Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners), one of Europe's top three renewable energy development investment companies, and the Technical University of Denmark to foster specialized talent in offshore wind power.
Accordingly, in the offshore wind power industry sector representing the Korean-style Green New Deal, the university will actively engage in nurturing future specialized talent and educational exchanges by partnering with global green energy companies and Denmark's world-renowned wind research institutions.
The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) is known as a world-class research institution in environmental science, especially in the field of wind power.
Attending the MOU signing ceremony held at Mokpo National University were Park Min-seo, President of Mokpo National University; Ainer Jensen, Danish Ambassador; Peter Mattson, Dean of DTU Wind Energy; and Yoo Tae-seung, CEO of CIP Korea.
Recently, the Korean government presented a blueprint to expand the scale of offshore wind power generation in Korea to 12GW by 2030 under its renewable energy transition policy, aiming to become one of the world's top five offshore wind power countries. Securing advanced technology and specialized personnel in this field has emerged as a new challenge.
In particular, the government and local governments expect to attract private investment totaling 63 trillion won related to offshore wind power for the purpose of the Korean-style Green New Deal, establishing a wind power ecosystem and revitalizing the regional economy, which is anticipated to generate an economic ripple effect of about 23 trillion won and create 90,000 jobs over the next decade.
President Park Min-seo said at the signing ceremony, "Mokpo National University and the Technical University of Denmark will lay the foundation as leading universities in nurturing excellent talent in the offshore wind power sector, and through win-win cooperation with CIP, we expect to contribute to securing regional economic and national competitiveness through the development of the offshore wind power industry in Jeonnam."
Yoo Tae-seung, CEO of CIP Korea, stated, "For the offshore wind power industry to become a new growth engine for the regional economy, a large number of highly trained experts will be needed in this field in the future. This industry-academic cooperation between Korea and Denmark will serve as a stepping stone to nurture such future specialized talent."
Meanwhile, Lee Sang-chan, head of the LINC+ Project Group at Mokpo National University, who organized the event, said, "Through the MOU with the Technical University of Denmark and CIP, we will nurture offshore wind power talent and promote intensive industry-academic cooperation through the establishment of the LINC+ Offshore Wind Power ICC."
Through this agreement, Mokpo National University plans to promote various industry-academic cooperation programs for the development of the offshore wind power industry in Jeonnam together with the world-renowned wind research institution, the Technical University of Denmark, and the offshore wind power specialized company CIP.
