[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] LG Uplus announced on the 27th that it will engage in multifaceted business cooperation on the 5G-based ICT virtual convergence content industry as part of the ‘Korea-ASEAN ICT Convergence Village’ project in collaboration with the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency.

The ‘Korea-ASEAN ICT Convergence Village’ project aims to expand ICT exchanges and mutual growth between Korea and ASEAN based on virtual convergence technology. Both parties plan to carry out joint Korea-ASEAN cooperation projects utilizing various infrastructures based on domestic ICT convergence technologies. In particular, through this business agreement, LG Uplus will focus on advancing and expanding the ‘5G-based indoor and outdoor continuous user location tracking system,’ jointly developed by the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency and the local startup ‘RealMaker.’

The ‘5G-based indoor and outdoor continuous user location tracking’ technology enables location measurement within an error range of 1 to 2 meters even indoors where it is difficult to measure location using GPS, by using round-trip time of Wi-Fi signals and Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) information from smartphones to wireless APs. Additionally, based on hybrid spatial information recognition technology that applies artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze image information of indoor and outdoor spaces and user motion information, it can provide AR convergence services such as augmented reality (AR) location services.

By utilizing the 5G private network and these technologies, it can be used in various situations such as ▲location tracking in emergencies like occurrence of emergency patients ▲location tracking of rescue targets at fire scenes ▲location tracking of unauthorized outings of self-quarantined individuals. LG Uplus and the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency plan to further advance this service and expand its application to smart cities domestically and internationally.

Wonseok Cho, Head of Corporate New Business Group (Executive Vice President) at LG Uplus, said, “We will be able to provide various convergence contents and solutions by utilizing LG Uplus’s 5G communication network and ICT technologies,” adding, “Based on this business agreement, we will cooperate with the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency to present successful outcomes.”

Insook Lee, Director of the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency, said, “We will continue to discover joint cooperation projects in the field of virtual convergence technology between Korea and ASEAN by utilizing 5G-based immersive content production infrastructure,” and added, “With this agreement with LG Uplus as an opportunity, we will play a leading role in the development of domestic virtual convergence technology and exchange cooperation projects with ASEAN.”
