[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] T'way Air announced on the 26th that it transported 3.93 million domestic passengers last year, ranking second among the seven domestic low-cost carriers (LCCs).

According to statistics from the Aviation Information Portal System (Air Portal), the total number of domestic passengers transported by the seven domestic LCCs last year was 16.99 million. Jeju Air led with 4.35 million passengers, followed by T'way Air, Jin Air with 3.65 million in third place, and Air Busan with 3.39 million in fourth place.

T'way Air explained that as international flights were largely suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it expanded its network focusing on domestic routes, enabling it to secure second place in terms of domestic passenger numbers.

Earlier, the company launched new routes last year starting with Cheongju~Jeju in April, Gimpo~Busan in May, Gwangju~Yangyang, Gimhae~Yangyang, Gimpo~Gwangju in June, and Gimhae~Jeju in September.

T'way Air announced various events and plans to introduce medium-to-large aircraft to increase passenger demand.

In the new year, it is offering a unique experience by conducting international non-stop sunrise flights, allowing passengers to enjoy the feeling of travel and shopping together.

Starting at the end of this year, Airbus A330-300 aircraft will be gradually introduced to improve profitability through route differentiation, including destinations such as Sydney, Australia, and Croatia.

Through the operation of a state-of-the-art training center, the company plans to provide training suitable for medium-to-large aircraft and maintain the best safety operation system when international flights resume in full.

A T'way Air official said, "Last year, we focused on defending performance and expanding utilization rates through rapid domestic route operations. This year, we will quickly respond to the upcoming changes in the new aviation market and expand profitability and business diversity based on safe operations."
