[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] On the 26th, Lee Nak-yeon, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, met with Kim Jin-wook, the newly appointed head of the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Unit (Gong-su-cheo), and stated, "Gong-su-cheo and the Democratic Party are in a collaborative relationship," expressing his intention to offer support.

During the meeting with Director Kim, Lee said, "I hope that Gong-su-cheo, which has taken its first steps, will settle in well and surely meet the high hopes and expectations that the public places on it."

In response, Director Kim said, "Although we are starting modestly with a team of 25 members, I believe that if we gain the trust of the people later, we will flourish."

Lee added, "Our prosecution reform will continue relentlessly," and urged, "Alongside the reform of power institutions, Gong-su-cheo should work together to eliminate wrongful practices, cultures, or privileges within power institutions and create a clean and transparent public service society."

Director Kim added, "While defending cases investigated by the prosecution, I have witnessed some organizational culture and excessive investigations driven by performance-oriented approaches within the prosecution," and said, "If Gong-su-cheo shows results to the public, prosecution reform will naturally follow."
