[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Moon In) announced on the 26th that it will recruit five new facilities to establish Together Care Centers by the 10th of next month to eliminate blind spots in childcare.
Together Care Centers are a government policy project aimed at establishing a community-centered child care system, primarily serving children aged 6 to 12 years old.
The recruitment targets are social welfare facilities, public sports facilities, and apartment complexes that can provide idle spaces with a net area of 66㎡ or more free of charge for 10 years.
The installation criteria require that there be no youth-restricted establishments within 50 meters of the facility, the location should not be underground or above the 5th floor, and it should be easily accessible on foot from schools or homes with smooth outdoor activity areas.
Facilities selected as new installation sites will receive a total project budget of 70 million KRW for remodeling costs and equipment purchases, and after opening, they will provide various care services such as regular and temporary care, learning support, and educational, cultural, and sports activities for elementary school students in need of care.
Applications can be submitted in person to the Women and Children Division by referring to the Buk-gu Office website.
Buk-gu plans to finalize the selection of new installation sites in March after verifying compliance with installation criteria and conducting on-site inspections.
District Mayor Moon In of Buk-gu said, “We will strive to strengthen public childcare functions to fill the care gaps caused by COVID-19 and reduce the childcare burden on single-parent and dual-income families.”
