[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] "We will restore the public value and trust of the media and break the framework of outdated regulations."

Han Sang-hyuk, Chairman of the Korea Communications Commission, stated this on the 25th at the '2021 Broadcasting and Communications New Year's Meeting' jointly hosted by 17 broadcasting and communications related associations and organizations, including the Korea Information and Communications Promotion Association and the Korea Broadcasting Association, saying, "We intend to pioneer a new path in the broadcasting and communications media sector."

This event was held in a non-face-to-face (untact) manner due to the COVID-19 situation. New Year's greetings and resolutions from Chairman Han Sang-hyuk and heads of associations and organizations were produced as videos and sent in the form of e-New Year's cards.

Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun said in his New Year's greeting video, "Amid an unprecedented crisis, we gained the strength to endure COVID-19 through the active participation of broadcasting and communications personnel in quarantine efforts," and added, "I deeply appreciate the hard work of all broadcasting and communications personnel who opened a new path from untact to ontact." He further stated, "This year, the government will protect the independence and autonomy of the media while ensuring that the media is more trusted and that public discourse in our society is revitalized."

Chairman Han Sang-hyuk urged broadcasting and communications personnel to work together to create a broadcasting and communications media environment where the values of trust, growth, and inclusion are felt.

Meanwhile, the co-hosting organizations plan to donate part of the costs saved by not holding face-to-face events this year to the Green Umbrella Children's Foundation's 'Sharing Project for Children without Guardians' through joint fundraising.
