Digital (46), Green (11), Safety Net Enhancement (3) in 3 sectors... Promoting IoT-based Resident Priority Parking Sharing, Big Data Integrated Platform Construction... Concurrently Conducting Civil Servant Training, Benchmarking Excellent Institutions, and Selecting & Awarding Outstanding Departments
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Yongsan-gu (District Mayor Seong Jang-hyun) is undertaking 60 Korean New Deal projects this year, amounting to 5.3 billion KRW.
The projects fall into three categories: Digital (46 projects), Green (11 projects), and Safety Net Enhancement (3 projects). Major initiatives include ▲ IoT-based resident-priority parking sharing ▲ Big data integrated platform construction ▲ Smart alley creation ▲ Green remodeling of Dongbinggo Daycare Center ▲ Smart sewage odor improvement ▲ Operation of Hope-Keum Deuzon Store.
The IoT-based resident-priority parking sharing project will be conducted around Hyochang Park Public Parking Lots 1 and 2 (142 spaces). Existing public parking lots will be converted into resident-priority parking lots and linked with the ‘Seoul Parking Information’ application and private sharing platforms. This is expected to increase the utilization of idle parking spaces and help alleviate parking difficulties.
The big data integrated platform construction involves standardizing and updating various data produced by the district to make it accessible for everyone. By the end of this year, the district will establish this platform to serve as a basis for policy decisions. Highly useful data will also be made available to citizens free of charge.
The smart alley creation is part of Seoul City's alley regeneration project and is underway in the area of Sowol-ro 20-gil (a 320m section) in Yongsan-gu. Plans include installing smart security lights equipped with CCTV and hazard alarms, as well as smart bus shelters (rest areas), with construction starting in the second half of this year.
The green remodeling project of Dongbinggo Daycare Center (7 Noksapyeong-daero 14-gil) aims to improve energy efficiency and the children's indoor environment. Planned installations include high-performance windows, heat recovery ventilation systems, interior and exterior wall insulation, high-efficiency heating and cooling devices, boilers, LED lighting, and renewable energy systems.
The smart sewage odor improvement project will also be carried out. Last year, based on a survey and mitigation plan for sewage odors in the area, the district established an ‘odor map’ dataset. Using this, by October, odor reduction facilities and blocking devices will be installed at 200 locations including sewage pipelines and rainwater inlets.
A district official stated, “We are putting great effort into the successful implementation of the Korean New Deal projects,” adding, “We will continue to discover and implement new projects, supporting this through capacity-building training for public officials, benchmarking excellent institutions, and selecting and rewarding outstanding departments.”
The Korean New Deal is a national project declared last year by President Moon Jae-in. It embodies the government’s promise (Deal) to transform Korea into a new (New) nation by shifting from a catch-up economy to a leading economy, from a carbon-dependent economy to a low-carbon economy, and from an unequal society to an inclusive society.
Last year, to facilitate smooth implementation of the Korean New Deal, the district formed a Future Strategy Task Force (TF) and sector-specific TFs, discovering 82 new projects. After feasibility reviews (September) and budget scrutiny by the district council (December), the final details were confirmed.
Yongsan District Mayor Seong Jang-hyun said, “We have completed organizational restructuring, including changing the Planning and Budget and Creative Management Team to the Creative New Deal Team,” adding, “All public officials will do their best to ensure Yongsan leads the Korean New Deal.”
