2021 Season Opening Diamond Resort Tournament Day 3: 4 Under Par, Korda 2 Strokes Behind in 2nd Place "11 Under Par Storm Shots"
[Asia Economy Kim Hyun-jun, Golf Specialist Reporter] "8 strokes behind the leader."
Jeon In-ji (27, KB Financial Group, photo) slipped to 4th place (13-under 200). On the 24th (Korean time), at the Four Seasons Golf & Sports Club in Lake Buena Vista, Florida (par 71, 6645 yards), the third day of the 2021 LPGA Tour season opener, the Diamond Resort Tournament (total prize money $1.2 million), she managed only 4-under par. Danielle Kang (USA) surged with 8-under par, dominating the top of the leaderboard on the third day (21-under 192).
Jeon In-ji started tied for 3rd, 4 strokes behind, and recorded 5 birdies and 1 bogey. She cruised with birdies on holes 1 and 4 (par 4), but her iron shots faltered, leading to a stretch of 7 consecutive pars until the 11th hole (par 4), and eventually a bogey on the 12th hole (par 4) halted her momentum. Fortunately, she picked up 3 birdies on holes 14, 16, and 18 to maintain a top position. From Korea, Park Hee-young (34) is tied for 21st (1-under 212), and Hur Mi-jung (32, Daebang Construction) is tied for 23rd (even par 213).
Locally, the big news is the ‘sister rivalry’ with Jessica Korda in 2nd place (19-under 194) and Nelly Korda (both USA) in 3rd place (15-under 198). Older sister Jessica completed a ‘perfect play’ with 1 eagle and 9 birdies for 11-under par, drawing even more spotlight. She scored 9-under 28 on the back nine holes (par 37) alone. Brooke Henderson (Canada) is fighting a tough chase from 5th place (12-under 201).
