LG CLOi Sterilization Bot Selected as 'Best of CES'... Launching in the US in the First Half of the Year

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] LG Electronics' contactless disinfection robot 'LG CLOi DisinfectBot' attracted attention at the 'Best of CES' event held locally in the United States on the 21st.

The event was hosted by the US media research organization Pally Center. Each year, the Pally Center selects and demonstrates promising and influential products exhibited at CES. This year's event was held online due to the impact of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

LG Electronics demonstrated in real-time the disinfection of hotel rooms using the LG CLOi DisinfectBot.

The LG CLOi DisinfectBot removes bacteria using UV-C lamps. UV-C ultraviolet light, with a wavelength of 100 to 280 nm, is widely used to eliminate various bacteria. The Korea Conformity Laboratories (KCL) confirmed that the UV-C lamp on this robot disinfects 99.9% of Escherichia coli within a distance of 50 cm.

This robot operates based on autonomous driving and obstacle avoidance technology. The robot is approximately 160 cm tall, with UV-C lamps located on both sides of its body. The robot moves through indoor spaces, disinfecting surfaces of objects frequently touched by people. It is useful for disinfection work in buildings with many separated and independent spaces such as hotels, hospitals, schools, and social welfare facilities.

This product is scheduled to be launched in the US market in the first half of this year.

LG Electronics expects the CLOi DisinfectBot to perform disinfection tasks contactlessly at a time when disinfection has become more important due to COVID-19. Previously, people had to perform disinfection and cleaning simultaneously, but this robot is expected to reduce the burden of disinfection, lower worker fatigue, and contribute to improving work efficiency.

LG Electronics is positioning robots as a key pillar of its future business and is focusing on services easily accessible in daily life, offering various customized solutions for hotels, hospitals, F&B, and more.
