Sancheong-gun and LH Launch First Public Rental Housing Project in the Region

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, and Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) are breaking ground on a public rental housing construction project for 150 households.

On the 22nd, Sancheong-gun announced that it will begin the public rental housing construction project in the area of 525 Oksan-ri, Sancheong-eup, starting early February.

This rental housing is the first public rental housing to be built in Sancheong-gun, with a project cost of 26 billion KRW.

The county and LH plan to build 150 units of public rental housing along with auxiliary and welfare facilities.

By the end of January, they plan to complete the installation of the site office and temporary fences, and start full-scale excavation work from early February.

The recruitment announcement for public rental housing tenants will begin with the Happy Housing tenant recruitment in March, followed by recruitment for National and Permanent Rental Housing tenants in April. Applicants must be members of a household without a home as of the announcement date and meet income and asset ownership criteria.

The National Rental Housing (100 units), with exclusive areas ranging from 29 to 46㎡, targets households with an average monthly income of 70% or less of urban workers' household income.

The Happy Housing (30 units), with exclusive areas of 16 to 36㎡, is intended for young adults and newlyweds, while the Permanent Rental Housing (20 units), with an exclusive area of 24㎡, is for low-income groups and recipients of basic livelihood security benefits.

To promote this project, Sancheong-gun and LH signed an MOU for the construction of public rental housing, received designation of the regional district by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, obtained district planning and housing construction project plan approval, and completed compensation for the incorporated land. Construction will be carried out by Utop Construction Co., Ltd., based in Seoul.

The county plans to focus not only on the public rental housing construction project but also on renovating the deteriorated infrastructure and public facilities around the Sancheong-eup area.

A county official said, "This public housing project aims to provide customized housing for low-income households without homes, youth, and newlyweds to ensure residential stability. Once the project is completed, it is expected to create a pleasant living environment, attract population inflow, and revitalize the local economy."
