[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Gimhae City, Gyeongnam Province, has taken measures to prevent water pollution accidents in advance.
The city announced on the 22nd that it will thoroughly manage water pollution sources during the vulnerable periods of water pollution accidents, such as the winter season and the Lunar New Year holiday, to prevent accidents.
The winter season is a time when river pollution levels are relatively high due to insufficient river maintenance water volume, and water pollution accidents increase due to the inflow of pollutants caused by rainfall or thawing.
During the Lunar New Year holiday, there is a high risk of illegal discharge of pollutants exploiting the vulnerable period due to negligence in management and supervision.
Accordingly, patrols will be strengthened focusing on major rivers such as Hwapocheon, and emission sources of water pollutants will be intensively monitored.
In addition, until before the Lunar New Year holiday, 15 personnel will be deployed daily for pre-guidance, inducing voluntary inspections, and focused management of vulnerable businesses adjacent to rivers. During the holiday, management will be strengthened through the operation of a day and night situation room.
A city official said, "Since the winter season and Lunar New Year holiday are vulnerable periods for water pollution accidents, we will do our best to prevent them in advance," and added, "We ask businesses that discharge water pollutants to participate in water environment preservation by strengthening pre-inspections."
