Call for 'University-Community Linked Courses' until February 3, supporting selection of 5 regular lectures... Targeting local university professors to conduct courses on regional economy, culture, welfare, etc.... Students to present research outcomes at Town Hall Meeting in July
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) is inviting applications from local university (graduate) departments to conduct education and practical training on the theme of regional revitalization within the district during the first half of 2021 regular lectures.
The 'University-Region Linked Class Contest' is promoted to obtain ideas and research outcomes for regional revitalization through the expertise and fresh perspectives of universities.
Selected lectures will receive subsidies for research activities and surveys, and participating students will have the opportunity to contribute to the local community by applying their majors.
The contest targets professors at universities (graduate schools) within Seodaemun-gu who intend to operate lectures on topics such as the local economy, culture, housing, welfare, and community.
Applicants can download the application form and lecture plan from the 'Notices' section on the Seodaemun-gu Office website, complete them, and submit by email (rnjsqod0525@sdm.go.kr) by February 3.
Examples of lecture topics include revitalization of traditional markets, prevention of nest eviction (gentrification), utilization of vacant space sharing, creation of youth jobs, improvement of transportation environment and urban design, establishment of a global city through linkage with foreign international students, and activation of merchant-student-resident communities.
The district will review submitted lecture plans based on set criteria such as topic, public interest, connection with the region, and student participation, selecting five lectures and providing approximately 2 million won each.
Students enrolled in the lectures will explore regional revitalization measures through local resource surveys, resident interviews, and connections with activists and experts, and will participate in a 'Town Hall Meeting' in July this year to share their class outcomes with residents through presentations and discussions.
After the lectures conclude, the class outcomes will be documented in reports and presentation materials and submitted to the district office.
Mayor Moon Seok-jin said, “I hope that the achievements made by university students who take an interest in the region and actively participate will become valuable materials for the development of Seodaemun-gu, and that universities will also be able to grow together with the region through linked classes.”
