[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] Park Hoseo, the warden of Seoul Eastern Detention Center where a COVID-19 cluster infection occurred, has been transferred. Park, who was appointed in September last year, is moving after just four months.
On the 22nd, the Ministry of Justice conducted a regular promotion and transfer personnel reshuffle for 88 senior correctional officials. The effective date is the 25th.
With this personnel change, Warden Park will move to become a research fellow at the Legal Research and Training Institute, and Woo Heekyung, the current warden of Busan Detention Center, will take over as the new warden of the Eastern Detention Center. Kim Youngsik, the current warden of Busan Prison, will be promoted and transferred to the Busan Detention Center where Woo was stationed.
Meanwhile, at the Eastern Detention Center, a COVID-19 cluster infection began at the end of November last year with one staff member testing positive. Following the second full COVID-19 screening on the 25th of last month, two staff members and about 280 inmates tested positive, leading to the replacement of the security chief at the Eastern Detention Center.
