[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] The government has announced plans to pass around 10 key Korean New Deal bills in the February National Assembly session.

On the 22nd, Hong Nam-ki, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, held a meeting with related ministers (Noksil Meeting) at the Government Seoul Office to review the progress of the 10 major legislative tasks for the future transition of the Korean New Deal and discuss future plans.

Deputy Prime Minister Hong said, "We will actively cooperate with the National Assembly to ensure that around 20 bills, including the Data Basic Act and the Carbon Neutrality Implementation Act, are prioritized for legislation in the February National Assembly session."

Centered on the 'Data Dam,' a representative project of the Korean New Deal, the government aims to produce, collect, and process data and establish a legal basis to systematically promote these efforts. Once the Data Basic Act is established, the convergence and utilization of 5th generation mobile communication (5G) and artificial intelligence (AI) are expected to become more active. Additionally, plans are underway to accelerate the passage of the Carbon Neutrality Implementation Act to execute carbon neutrality by 2050. The 2050 Carbon Neutrality Promotion Strategy consists of a 3+1 strategy: three major policy directions?decarbonization of the economic structure, creation of a promising low-carbon industrial ecosystem, and fair transition to a carbon-neutral society?plus strengthening the institutional foundation.
