Establishing Mapo-gu Climate Crisis Response Plan for 2050 Carbon Neutrality Goal with 70 Million Won Budget, Developing Sector-Specific Climate Change Strategies Tailored to Local Characteristics
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yudonggyun) announced that it has been finally selected for the basic local government ‘Climate Crisis Response Plan’ support project organized by the Ministry of Environment, securing a budget of 70 million won.
Through this project, the district plans to establish the ‘Mapo-gu Climate Crisis Response Plan’ aiming for carbon neutrality by 2050 and prepare climate crisis response strategies tailored to the characteristics of the Mapo-gu area.
The response plan is a comprehensive plan for greenhouse gas reduction and climate change adaptation linked to the national ‘Basic Plan for Climate Change Response,’ including the current status and outlook of greenhouse gas emissions by sector, reduction implementation and adaptation targets, and detailed implementation plans.
In addition, the district is promoting various policies such as the 5 million tree planting project to overcome the climate crisis in line with the global new paradigm of carbon neutrality by 2050, support projects for energy-vulnerable groups, and climate crisis publicity activities.
Furthermore, last year, Mapo-gu joined the Carbon Neutral Local Government Practice Solidarity, contributing to raising awareness and consensus on climate crisis action.
Mayor Yudonggyun of Mapo-gu said, “Taking this project as an opportunity, Mapo-gu will firmly establish the foundation for climate change response, strengthen its capacity as a practical implementer of carbon neutrality, and do its best to prepare for the climate crisis.”
Meanwhile, to raise the willingness to practice carbon-neutral living and environmental conservation, the district will recruit regular students for the ‘2021 Online Mapo-gu Green Leader Environmental Expert Course’ on a first-come, first-served basis from the 25th to the 29th.
The Green Leader Environmental Expert Course is a program conducted to cultivate resident environmental experts who lead environmental movements in daily life as the need for environmental conservation increases. It targets 25 Mapo-gu residents and, due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, will be held via real-time ZOOM video lectures starting from February 16.
